Aqeel Khan Clinches First ATT Title at Pakistan

Aqeel Khan annexed the 1st ATT Federal Cup Tennis Championships title in a thrilling three setter match held at the SDA PTF Tennis Complex, Isalambad, Pakistan on Wedneday, 26th October.

Aqeel was in excellent form; in the first set and kept his opponent on run throughout the set with his double hand, forehand, backhand drives and won the first set at 6-1 by breaking 2nd and 4th game.

Second set was completely a different to what was on offer in the first set as it was not Aqeel but surprisingly it was Ahmed, who was dictating terms and conditions as Aqeel was looking clueless. Ahmed won the first 5 games in a row.

Ahmed looked a completely different player and it seemed he is going to record another upset victory against Aqeel, just like he did last year, when he eliminated Aqeel in the quarterfinals and went onto win his maiden national ranking title.

Aqeel did managed to hold onto his 6th serve, but Ahmed did not  waste time and wraped up second set 6-1 in 32 minutes to square things.

The final set was marked with aces and powerful ground strokes from both players, long rallies. Ahmed Choudhary build up the winning lead 2-1 by breaking second game of Aqeel by hitting some down the line drives.

Aqeel Khan level the score by breaking 4th game of Ahmed Choudhary with the help of forehand drives. Aqeel again broke the 6th game of Ahmed Choudhry who made unforced error at the crucial stages. Aqeel kept the same pressure at the final stages and won the final set at 6-2 by breaking last game of Ahmed Ch. The match lasted 1 hrs 40 minutes.

Aqeel Khan won the 1st Asian Tennis Tour (ATT) Federal Cup Tennis Championship and got the cash award of US $900/- along with glittering trophy, whereas Ahmed Choudhary got US $600/- as runner-up with trophy.

Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, President Islamabad Tennis Association was the Chief Guest and distributed the prizes among the winner and runner-up. Mr. Khalid Rehmani Secretary PTF, Arif Qureshi ITF Referee and other distinguished guest and large number of tennis fans witness the final.
